PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT
Lubricate
We recommend that you put lotion on the area once a day for a week prior to getting tattooed. This will make the area better for us to work on!
Nutrition
It is very important to have a meal before your tattoo session.
We also recommend that you bring some food for the break (for longer sessions) and some snacks/candy/soda etc, to help keep your blood sugar on a good level throughout the day.
Shower and clean clothes
Hygiene is very important in a tattoo session, for both you and the artist. While getting tattooed you are very close to your artist and body odor is not nice for anyone.
It is also important for the tattoo process that you and your clothes are clean.
Please do not wear any light-colored clothes for your tattoo session. Also consider the placement of the tattoo when you decide what to wear. For example tank top for upper arm tattoo, skirt or shorts for leg tattoo etc. If you get cold easily, it´s a good idea to bring warm clothes/socks/blanket during the winter season.
Prepare your skin! If you are going to spend time in the sun prior to your appointment, we recommend that you use sunscreen with a high level of protection (50 spf). If your skin has a sunburn, we will not be able to tattoo on it because the skin is damaged. The best thing to do to prevent this is to cover the area or keep it out of the sun!
Examine your skin! If you have any moles in the area where your tattoo is going, we kindly ask you to get in touch with a doctor/dermatologist for a consult. It is possible to remove it to avoid big "holes" in the tattoo! This is only a recommendation, it is also possible to work around it.
AFTERCARE
Cover
We recommend that you keep the plastic on for about 6 hours. Protective pads can stay on until the morning after.
If you got secondskin on your tattoo, this should stay on for 4-5 days before you remove it. Remove it by gently pulling the edges, with the skin, not straight up. Warm water may help if the glue sticks too well.
Its completely normal that the tattoo leaks inside the plastic.
If there is a tear in the plastic or its starting to fall off, you should remove it and start the cleaning process.
Washing your tattoo
1. Wash your hands with soap
2. Remove the pad/plastic and dispose of it
3. Let water run over the tattoo and wash with green soap. We recommend medicinal green soap that are meant for wounds.
4. Remove any leftover ink by running your finger over the tattoo, easiest place to do this is usually in the shower.
5. Air dry, or carefully dry with a clean paper towel (never use a regular towel)
Lubricate
We recommend washing your tattoo with medicinal green soap every day, 2-3 times in the beginning, and 1 time a day after a few days. Lubricate it with a thin layer of lotion 1 time pr day in the beginning and increase to 2-3 times a day when it starts to get more dry. We recommend Sorry mom tattoo lotion or TattooMed lotion. Aftercare package with soap and lotion is available for purchase in our shop. Also available separately.
Continue this process for about 2 weeks, until the tattoo is healed. Avoid the sun and do not swim or take a bath for at least 3-4 weeks. Please don´t scratch the tattoo or touch it unnecessarily. Change your bed sheets for the first night without any protective film or plastic.
Avoid wool directly on the tattoo while healing, this can create irritation in the skin.
Work out
We recommend that you keep any exercise to a minimum the first week, in order to let your tattoo heal properly, for the best result. You may work out, but keep the sweating to a minimum, and make sure that any crust doesn’t crack when for example weightlifting. It´s very important to avoid bumping into anything that may contain bacteria with you tattoo exposed, for example machines in the gym, the sink etc. Please be extra careful if your new tattoo is placed on your lower legs or wrists, these placements are more exposed due to bacteria and bad blood flow.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!
Good luck with your new tattoo:)
